Earlier this year, my acupuncturist attributed the pain on the left side of my ribs to anger. She suggested that my spleen was absorbing unresolved anger thus creating pain. Interestingly enough, I couldn't think of a source of anger. I had resolved and dissipated some unproductive energies (relationships, clutter and old thoughts) and felt carefree.
Nonetheless, I had this pain. That day on the table and with acupuncture pins protruding outward, I was supposed to be in a mellow state of calm while my energy flow provided me with healing... and then, it occurred to me: "Yes, I have been angry!" I was angry at my little dog Bella. Bella is an urban indoor dog. We get out in nature regularly but we are apartment dwellers and do not have access to a backyard. Bella and Appa, her sister are both eight years old and have been "potty trained" for years. I keep a doggy "pee" pad in the bathroom for their use, and I take them out at least twice a day to do their 'business" and to get exercise. This is the funny (not really) part. Bella pees on the edge of the pad. She goes to the right location in the bathroom but for some reason she won't aim in the middle of the pad. This halfway messes up a good pee pad and provides a mess on the floor and sometimes on my white rug. I don't have time for this! Aarg! "BELLA! DO YOUR BUSINESS HERE!!!!" I would yell pointing to the pad while she hangs her head down looking at my finger and her mess. I'd yell this at her several times a week. I try and try to show her where to go, and to this very day she continues to pee halfway. Oooo! The frustration! Goodness. Since discovering the source of my anger, I stopped making a big deal out of this small thing and the pain has not returned. I stopped yelling at Bella. I thank God for millions of cleaning choices and I also learned that feeding my doggies once in the evening helps controls their urges to urinate during the day. I keep our outdoor/walking schedule consistent and manage the times they have to actually use the pad indoors. It helps, but occasionally, Bella halfway pees on my floor or carpet. This morning, bright and early before I could put on my walking shoes, Bella potties on the pad. She pees right in the middle of the pad! "YAY! BELLA! Good job! LOOK! You did it!" Oh, the Joy! I give her lots of hugs and kisses. She wags her tail happily and wildly and comes to nuzzle my check - making the start of my day simply beautiful. Today, I celebrate the win. For me and for Bella.
